The little prince took great care of his land, ensuring that no bad seeds were ever able to grow. He agrees and the two become friends which leads the narrator to ascertain where the prince came from a tiny planet, somewhere in the universe, called asteroid B – 612.

Whilst the protagonist is pondering over the predicament, he is approached by the little prince who asks the narrator to draw him a sheep. He will die of thirst if he does not manage to fix his airplane soon. The story of The Little Prince is a simple one the narrator, an airplane pilot, crashes on a dessert island, miles away from civilisation. Nonetheless, despite being enticed as a child I did not fully grasp the themes of friendship and love which fill De Saint – Exupéry’s literacy. I would draw pictures of boa constrictors and sheep to mount on the fridge. When reading this as a child I was captivated by the illustration and the plot. It is apparent Saint de – Exupéry has a love for the child’s imagination and believes that as people grow older they lose the imagination they once had. The author furthers his apology by altering his dedication to the boy the man used to be. He rationalises this on three grounds he is the novelist’s best friend, he appreciates everything ‘even books for children’ and ‘this grown – up lives in France, where he is cold and hungry. This becomes apparent before the book even begins as the author apologises for dedicating the book to an adult.

The Little Prince is ostensibly a children’s book.
